Classifieds sinks home these days with so many people out of work. It does ask the moral question, "How far would you go to make end meet?". But what if you became the target of something bigger? What if your life was invaded to the point that your every movement was watched by a government agency? What if the governement decided to use unemployed citizens to do Black Ops for them? How would they get those people involved?
What if something like this occured to you. You are walking along the street on you way home from another failed job interview or from a successful package drop. Your cell phone rings. You look at the number. You do not recognize it so you send it to voice mail. It rings again - the same number - you flip it open and put it to your ear.
"Mr. Jenkins you have approximately 24 seconds to move down the alley to your right." You ask who it is. "You now have 18 seconds Mr. Jenkins, move faster." You flip the phone shut and continue walking. An alley comes up on your right. Your cell phone rings again. "What?", you answer harshly.
The rhytmic voice on the other end says, "Mr. Jenkins you have only 8 seconds to make the most important decision of your life - move down the alley now." You look around and without thinking dart into the alley. The voice hangs up just as a trash truck slams into the exact spot where you were just standing and takes out part of the building.
When the dust settles and your ears stop ringing, the phone rings again. You answer it shaking.
"Mr. Jenkins, congratulations on doing what you are told. As you can see we are now directing your future. You will do exaclty what we say or your life will be terminated. You have been chosen; this is not a volunteer exercise. Now move down the alleyway to the next street and hang a left. From there you will go to Joe's Shoe Repair Shop and tell the man you are Bob Smith. We will call you after you come out."
This is a situation that my strike some fear into the players or they may find it exciting. Your job is to never let up on them. Never give them the break they are looking for. If they thought making a decision to do some immoral deliveries was hard, here they will be bloodying their hands for an unknown voice - for free.
If they attempt at anytime to flee or hide, make them understand it is quite impossible while living in the age of surveillence. Even their phone has GPS. The pace should never let up for a single moment. They are now playing a game of death with an unknown opponent.
This is just one of many ways to use Classifieds. This is a setting based on you - the average person thrown into a situation not of your own making, but you do need to survive. When you make a decision to walk into the grey areas of life, they have a tendency to pull you one way or the other. You can never leave unscathed.
