The RARE System
The R.A.R.E. Experience

From the days of old school philosophy gaming comes a more modern version of old world thinking. This is a system for those who don’t need their hands held when starting a new system. We expect the advanced gamer to know their way around a rulebook and how to read. We also expect them to be able to adlib or create rules where there are none. We have purposely created this system for the advanced gamer. We have taken the very best aspects of our gaming histories and crunched them all down into one R.A.R.E. moment. R.A.R.E. - the “Realistic Advanced Role-playing Engine”.

At the heart of R.A.R.E. is the Battle Wheel. On this wheel, all combat takes place in a stop-watch fashion. Everyone knows where they stand during the battle. When utilizing the wheel, no one person will ever be missed or left out of combat again. Once initiative is declared, every character enters the wheel on their turn, moving counterclockwise down from 60 to 01. All combatants, from comrades to enemies, use to wheel to determine order of actions and how quickly they perform each one. The last person closest to 60 always goes first.

The wheel is very strategic, in that it allows you to contemplate your next move by watching what your opponent is doing. Strategy is a core ingredient to ancient combat. Does a dagger strike more often than a great sword or can I afford to block the next shot and lose my position on the wheel? You are in control, you determine success or failure, but this is only one aspect of R.A.R.E., there are many more creative ideas within the main book; from personal spell creation to the unique “Mote Advancement Experience", or MAX.

The old way of gaining experience has fallen away, finally. Here at visioNation studios, all of our systems use the MAX system, based solely on role-playing. You will never to be rewarded for wiping out a Vessuren village, but you will be for surviving the village massacre (doubtful, very doubtful you would survive anyway). Everyone must put forth an effort to role-play their characters or they will never advance. If you are one of those people who enjoy staying at the back of the party, quiet, never saying anything, then you might want to disappear. We believe in total group participation if you expect to get anywhere. If you enjoy some of the best of old school role-playing with a flair of new ideas, then R.A.R.E. is the system you are looking.
