Broken Swords & Battered Shields is for the advanced gamer who wants the synergy of both realism and a boundary-free system. The system puts the rules of the game into the hands of the Lorekeeper so that each game is different based solely on the imagination of each individual. Broken Swords & Battered Shields is the initial game in our lineup that utilizes the RARE (Realistic Advanced Roleplaying Engine) system. RARE provides a set of rules with both realistic structure, (such as body parts with points instead of a single hit point pool), and flexibility (we provide the system for creating your spells, but each player creates their own spells).

BS&BS uses a percentage-based system for all rolls intended to determine success or failure. This includes all skills, saves, and attacks. Damage rolls still utilize some of the other dice, for ease of use.

We have attempted to create a game in which creative ideas are exchanged between players and Lorekeepers. In this vein, many rules are left open-ended, making each game tailored toward the individual Lorekeeper and their players. House rules are certainly encouraged.

Included in the book is a Lorekeeper’s section that quickly gives them the creation process for monster, mounts and creatures. Why yes we do not give many creatures fully assembled; that would diminish the creative flow of the system. We have built a few, intended to be templates, but no one knows your world, your players, and your own twisted mind better than yourself. To dictate a whole library of creatures in this book would only stifle the creativity we hoped to have stirred up.

Here you will find that the only limits are your own creavity. So quest forward and experience a far greater world- your imagination.
